The investment business is one of the fastest changing marketplaces in the world: today’s flavour of the month can sometimes be tomorrow’s ’dog’. We strive to stay one step ahead and to make sure that we recommend only those assets and funds that hold the most potential rather than those that are past their ‘sell by date’.
Our purpose can be summed up in one sentence: “to ensure that our clients invest their monies successfully throughout their entire lifetime”.
We believe that the principles behind successful investment planning are best summed up in Warren Buffett’s quote: “To invest successfully over a lifetime does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insight, or inside information. What is needed is a sound intellectual framework for making decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding that framework”.
By meeting and communicating with you on a regular basis, we will help empower you to consider investment opportunities on a rational and informed basis, rather than making ‘knee jerk’ decisions as so many investors still do.
We will work closely with you to establish a foundation on which investment decisions can be made. One of the first decisions in that respect is to establish a target growth rate that can meet your financial needs. For a typical client this would be around 7.6% per annum – providing a net income of 5% per annum – achieved over five-year cycles. But no matter what, the goal is to outperform cash every time.
We strive to deliver consistent investment returns so that you can have confidence in your financial future and be equipped to make informed financial decisions.
Unlike most firms of our size, we are authorised by the FSA to manage assets on a discretionary basis, where we can make decisions to act on opportunities without seeking the client’s permission each and every time and therefore avoiding any undue delays.
Most firms who have “discretionary permissions” leave it to their advisers to conduct research and make investment decisions, we have a full time investment manager and fund analyst. Whilst these individuals are accessible to you, their primary role is to dedicate their entire time to investment research and analysis. They, along with two of Equilibrium’s partners, form the Investment Management Committee which is responsible for making all investment-related decisions.
Active and streamlined service
Unlike the large financial institutions, our investment committee can be convened in hours so that decisions and actions can be taken sooner rather than later. We believe this fast track approach gives us an advantage over our larger competitors, where cumbersome corporate structures slow down the decision making process.
